Why Horses?

Horses are expressive communicators that command respect and offer it back in return. They have a powerful and sometimes intimidating presence which provides a true opportunity for you to face a challenge and learn from the process. The size and nature of the horse combine to demonstrate a need for honest non-verbal communication and reveal strong metaphors for dealing with many challenging situations in life.

Horses are very much like humans in that they are social animals. They have defined roles within their herds; established through non-verbal communication. Horses have distinct personalities, attitudes, and moods. An approach that works with one horse does not necessarily work with another. At times, they may seem stubborn and defiant. Other times, they seem to be reading our minds and finishing our sentences. In other words, horses provide vast opportunities for metaphorical learning. Using metaphors is an eye opening way to look into our own patterns and behaviors with new perspective.

Horses require work. In a time when immediate gratification and the "easy way" are popular, horses require people to be engaged mentally and physically - a valuable characteristic for all aspects of life.

Most importantly, horses have the ability to mirror exactly what human body language is telling them. They will tell you by showing you, both when you are effectively communicating and when you are not. Horses are honest, which makes them especially powerful messengers. They can show you who and how you are in many interesting ways.
